OpenAI reopens ChatGPT Plus subscriptions to new users

OR penAI has reopened ChatGPT Plus subscriptions to new users, after suspending registrations for a month. However, subscribers who choose to use GPT-4 are limited to 40 messages every three hours . It is not yet clear when users will be able to access OpenAI's newest and most powerful language model, GPT-4 Turbo .

A shutdown that lasted a month

The AI startup suspended new subscriptions after seeing an increase in demand for the service following its first developer conference, DevDay. At the November event, OpenAI announced new products, including the creation of custom ChatGPT (GPT). and the new GPT-4 Turbo model.

ChatGPT Plus, a premium service that costs $20 per month, already offers subscribers access to GPT-4 and GPT-3.5, as well as multimodal capabilities : Can accept and generate text, images and speech. OpenAI's latest image generation model, GIVE IT, is available through ChatGPT Plus, as well as third-party plugins like Expedia and Instacart to give the AI chatbot additional functionality.

$10 million in OpenAI Safe AI grant

The AI company led by Sam Altman announced , along with former Google President Eric Schmidt, $10 million in grants for research into how to make AI safe for humanity . OpenAI estimates that AI Superintelligence , in which systems surpass human intelligence, is achievable within 10 years. These systems will not only bring benefits, but “potentially present great risks,” the company said in a blog post.

Existing methods for containing these risks – the so-called “alignment” problem – will no longer be sufficient to tackle superintelligence. For example, current techniques, such as RLHF that rely on human monitoring, may no longer be sufficient.

The grants will fund research in areas such as weak-to-strong generalization, interpretability, and scalable supervision. For academic labs, nonprofit organizations and individual researchers, grants range from $100,000 to $2 million. For graduate students, OpenAI offers scholarships of $150,000 for one year (half as a stipend and half as funding for computing and research).

Applicants do not need to have alignment experience . Click here to apply before February 18. OpenAI promises to respond within four weeks of the deadline.
